A RED Book Update
When a state of emergency is declared and all the highways are shutdown…
What a way to begin a brand new year…a huge, terrifying, damaging, cold and wet storm from Kansas through to Washington, DC.
Tons of ice.
Tons of snow.
And it was cold. And it is still cold.
I find that taking action to take care of what is most important, makes me feel secure, safe, smart and prepared. That is the purpose of this RED Book update and blog.
The RED book is all about getting your important information in one spot so you can “have it” when it is needed.
The pounding on the door to evacuate is not ever the time to try and assemble the best “pile” of papers you need.
We are all so use to using technology to search for the information we need. Bank accounts, certificates, warranties, birth certificates, marriage license, the account numbers on all of the utilities and services you own; use; need.
My paper accounts (copied, and inserted into a plastic sheets and put in my RED Book) all have the information I need:
- Account number
- Telephone number to contact
- Current address being used
- Totals for current and previous usage
- List of service fees and what is actually being charged for
- Address of the service
- Customer service telephone number
- The previous amount of the services
That is a lot of information on one sheet of paper – valuable valuable valuable and none of that information is in your head.
Heck, you don’t even know most of the telephone numbers you call – because it is all safely and easily accessed on your ELECTRONIC phone.
In a disaster, one of the first loss of utilities is electricity. Unless your devices are fully charged, they can become useless quickly. And if the grid is down where you live, you can’t get in touch with anyone.
“Natalie, I have all of that information stored in my phone and in the cloud and on my desktop”.
Yup and it will stay there stored if you cannot access the technology.
The RED Book is a time saver and ultimately a life saver.
In emergencies, it is best if we have prepared for it before it happens.
If someone pounded on my door right now and said “get out”, I can easily snatch my RED Book and stuff it in my laptop case which is always in my office right next to my desk.
AND I have individual copies of the information inserts in my RED Book, stuffed in a carryall bag in my car.
I want you to be safe.
I want you to feel really good about how you are taking care of you and your information.
More storms are coming…
Let me know your questions. January can be a perfect time to put together all your important papers and copy them for your RED Book. Out with the old year, in with the new. My filing of the year; expenses; new accounts; new credit card numbers; telephone numbers added all are easily accessible because I’ve got the process going for filing what is most important and what I need for taxes and accounting.
Be safe.
To your success and safety,
